Strike or Settle? 31!
October 9th, 2008
Man I had a weird day today. It all started after I finished up with uni and went in to vote for whether or not the place I’m working at will go on strike starting tomorrow.
So I got on the bus with some of my coworkers there thinking that it would take about an hour or so to get it all over with and be paid before going back home. Unfortunately just the ride there took us though farmland and beyond…and I’m thinking like “holy hell where is this place?”
Once we got to the building we were let off, went inside and I was given my information after registering complete with the voting ballot. I was then directed to the main auditorium where we were going to listen to a union meeting (seriously the most boring and biased thing you could imagine) before filling out our ballots.
I hadn’t had good sleep and even though I had a redbull before I came I went up to get some coffee, came back to my spot and realized that I must have dropped the ballot somewhere so I went up to the lady at the registration desk and she was like “No, I can’t give you another one, talk to this man instead” so I turned to the man and not knowing who he was I asked for another stinkin piece of paper.
Little did I know, I was talking to the union director or whatever you call one of the most important people in the business, he’s the one who argues and lobbies with some of the biggest companies there are. So being me, I made an idiot of myself insisting that I wasn’t trying to lie to him while he smiled and said no. Deedless to say, I eventually came back around the table, found my ballot on the floor (lol!) and sat down for the whole 2 hours of fun.
When it was time to go, I was supposed to get a ride back but that didn’t happen so I had to run back and forth between buses while my co-workers and random people asked me what was wrong. The two bus drivers, people I worked with, a reception lady and even some random kids I don’t know must have been entertained. Like this kid came up to me and shook my hand randomly saying hi. Then his friend comes up and says hi too, and I’m like “Hello…..0_o o_o ?_?”
After getting on the bus and being driven back to the store it was pitch darkness outside. And it meant that I had a 30minute walk home in the freezing darkness of doom. I was freaked out walking at 10pm but I made it home alive, only to remember that I had 3 chapters of homework waiting to be finished.
Ah I can already tell tomorrow will be so long and draining. More group work waiting for me…NOOOOO!!
Question: How do you guys deal with hectic days?
